Tips For Handling Anticipatory Worry
July 6, 2016TONE IT DOWN; DIAL IT BACK. Usually we think this is said in the context of someone getting heated up, angry, about to go toe to toe and lose their cool. Guess what? Not so.
The older I get and the more of life I live the more I hear these admonitions in a different setting. Believe it or not, this is said to people
who are sharing a happy moment, laughing, or creating something ridiculously fun.
The older I get, the less patience I have for people who tell others (often me) to tone it down or dial it back when having a great time.
Now my response is, “Are you kidding me?” In this world where so much is unpredictable, and we experience serious ups and downs, when we have the chance to savor a moment, we must do it with a big, open heart. And if in that expression, it is accompanied by a hearty belly laugh, then all the more fun. Take it, embrace it, laugh with it, dance with it, and share it. Whatever we do, let’s not “curb our enthusiasm.”
