When Someone You Love Loses Someone They Love

Running Away or Running Toward
December 4, 2015It’s easy to stay where we are comfortable, even if we are unhappy. Uncertainty, loss, and pain may frighten us so to avoid feeling fear we try to protect ourselves by staying where we are.
Powerful forces work to keep us in our comfort zones, but personal discovery and development happen OUTSIDE of those comfort zones. Learning, creating, and growing happen when we face obstacles without assurances of knowing or being assured of success in our endeavors.
How can we get ourselves out there, into the world?
Bring Awareness to Our Natural Tendencies. – This will provide clues regarding how we view the boundaries in our current spheres.
Change Our Frame of Mind. – View our comfort zone not as a shelter but as a fortress. Embrace constructive discomfort. Don’t always take the safe, known path. Make a choice to select challenge over comfort, and set goals that take us outside our fortress gates.
Gradually Widen the Perimeter of our Comfort Zones. – We don’t have to be extreme in our extension; instead, we can incrementally expand our distance beyond our comfort zones and periodically assess where we are.
As we get used to overcoming our fears and experimenting with our lives, we will find it gets easier to stretch ourselves. Then we will feel we are “really living a life.”
