Understand this process takes some getting used to. Our mind may be spinning and going in several directions. We may hear self criticism. We can picture a person or a pet who loves us and whom we love near us. Creating this image in our minds can help us to feel comfortable during this exercise.
Here are steps we can follow to guide us in listening to ourselves:
Breathe deeply, focus on calming oneself with our breath.
Quiet our space.
Shut off the TV, RADIO, COMPUTER, NEWS.
Silence our smartphone.
Listen to our inner voice.
Limit the “noise” from other people ( those nearby and in our head).
Allow whatever comes to mind without judgement or editing.
