Tips to Take Care of Ourselves
December 1, 2017Some of us like change. Others don’t. Or we may like some change, but not a lot. Everyone is different and handles changes in their lives differently. One thing that we can bet on, however, is that change will be a constant in our lives.
A change in life circumstances, whether positive or negative, is something that initially knocks us a bit off-balance as we wonder who we are going to adjust. When something comes our way that we didn’t foresee, we can readjust and adapt.
When There is Change There is Loss. We will experience feelings of loss. We can try not to make assumptions about the future and how things will be. Instead, we can move through the loss to see positive possibilities.
Call on Our Buddies. The support of our friends and family is critical as we go through change. But if the people we thought we could count on are preoccupied with their own lives, we can seek other forms of support, such as counseling, coaching, support groups, organizations, or online forums that arrange in-person meetings. . We don’t have to to go through this alone, so don’t!
Visualize and Adjust. Breathe deeply as we quietly visualize ourselves adjusting through the change of circumstance. We can create a comforting mental picture to help us embrace this change. Although it’s been around for ages, visualization is a powerful and effective way to face our fears and become balanced. By calmly visualizing ourselves handling change, we are more likely to succeed.
