Aging Well and the Freedom to Keep Becoming
October 2, 2026I recently had the pleasure of joining Jana Short on All My Health; There Is Hope for a conversation about something that has been central to so much of my work: the importance of human connection.
We talked about the powerful bonds between generations, helping children develop empathy and emotional intelligence, and why connecting with nature can help us connect more deeply with ourselves and with one another.
I also shared some of the ideas behind my children’s books, THE TURQUOISE BUTTERFLY and DEAR DEER, and how stories can help children explore love, compassion, family relationships and the natural world.
One of the ideas we discussed was particularly meaningful to me:
“We must develop children’s senses to deeply connect with others and nature.”
We also talked about giving children experiences and memories rather than simply more things, and the kind of legacy we can create when we help younger generations value compassion, connection and care for our planet.
Thank you, Jana, for such a thoughtful conversation. I hope you’ll listen.
