Staying With Grief and The Gift of Presence
August 27, 2026I was delighted to join Marie Carter-Robb on the latest episode of The Pets Mag Podcast for a conversation about something I care deeply about: what children gain when they step away from screens and reconnect with animals and the natural world.
We talked about the remarkable real-life encounter with a trapped fawn that inspired my children’s book, DEAR DEER, and why I believe unstructured time in nature is so important for children.
Animals and nature can teach us lessons that are difficult to learn from a screen: patience, empathy, curiosity, observation, connection, and simply how to be present.
As I shared during our conversation:
“Nature is the greatest teacher and the greatest healer.”
I hope you’ll listen to our conversation and perhaps be inspired to trade a little screen time for green time. 🌳
