Greetings!
As we usher in 2008 take a moment to consider
how your lives can become more balanced.
Balance is the key to helping us through
life's challenges. When you live a balanced
life you will likely feel more content,
happier, and aware and appreciative of that
which you have. Generally those who live a
balanced life feel they have pleasure, are
actively engaged in their lives and believe
their lives have meaning.
In Balance Your
Relationships I offer suggestions for
reviewing re-evaluating and reconstructing
your relationships. In Balance Your
Schedule I offer tips to help you
simplify your daily routine. Begin to
appreciate and accept that sanity saving is
about juggling and knowing which balls you
can keep in the air and which you need to put
down for awhile. When you balance your
schedule you are helping yourself and those
around you have more manageable lives.
Once again thank you for helping to get the

Sanity SaversTM Balance Your Relationships |
 |
Now that the holidays are over and we begin
the New Year, it is helpful to reflect back as
well as look forward. While this is the
customary time for making resolutions, I
suggest you resolve, each day, to be more
mindful and present in your relationships as
you begin this
New Year.
Consider what you do and with whom you do it.
Think about who is in your life and the
reasons they are
there in the way they are. Review who is good
for you and who is not. Decide which
relationships need boundaries, which you can
release, and who gets "how much" of you.
Seek out people who can be there for you in
ways that you need them to be so you will
feel supported and heard and accept rather
than resent those who, for whatever reason,
cannot.
Be aware of whether you are your authentic
self when you are with the various people in
your life. Whom do you look forward to being
with and why? Be with people who respect
your values, and limit the time and
interactions with people who don't. Accept
your own opinions of who you are and should
be, rather than accepting other people's
opinions of who you should be.
Pay attention to your feelings, attitudes and
when you are in "uncomfortable" situations.
Determine what you can do about those
situations to keep yourself balanced. Notice
what your body is telling you. Determine how
a change of attitude can help you feel more
comfortable at a difficult environment. Rely
on your own internal reserve to keep your
balance when with people you find
challenging.
As we enter the New Year, be fully aware,
conscious and present. Each person you know,
or meet, will teach you something you need to
know about you, the world, and what is
important. In so doing, you will have
experiences that will open your mind to
incredible possibilities.

Sanity SaversTM A Good Daily Habit |
 |
De-Clutter Your Life
When you are bogged down with lots of stuff
and things to do, you close the door to
welcoming in the new. How about allowing
your spaces and yourself to truly breathe?
Think about doing something each day to simplify
your life,
beyond just cleaning closets. Vacuum out
your car, organize a part of the garage,
simplify your
daily routine, and start to feel lighter.
Free yourself from that which has weighed you
down, and give yourself the opportunity to be
open to transition.

Sanity SaversTM TIPS Balance Your Schedule: Organize and Simplify |
 |
Do you find that you have too much to do and
are out of balance? Do
you equate "busy" with "worthwhile"? There
is such a thing as finding equilibrium in your
schedule, and you can find
it by organizing and simplifying. Maintain
your sanity by following these tips:
- Simplify "To Do" Lists - Break
lists into small, manageable segments. Then
appreciate that which you have done. Keep a
timeline for what follows, and note choices
that reflect your priorities. Be careful not
to value only those activities that end in
results. Stay out of the line of fire of
other people's judgments regarding what you
do and don't do in a day; the way you parcel
your
time and your energy.
- Plan Fewer Things - Figure out
what is a productive use of your time and
what isn't. Let go of the unproductive
activities. Try to spend time with what you
enjoy, and with people you like, engaged in
life in a meaningful way. At different times
of your life you may not be able to do all of
what you want to do. Understand this is
temporary. You can pick up what you put down
for now.
- Consciously Integrate Your "Lives"
- When it is healthy for you, integrate
your work and your professional lives. When
you are on a business trip, take time to
visit an art museum or take in a play. When
you are with other parents, talk about the
world, politics or a volunteer project.
- Cure Yourself of the Hurry
Sickness - Give yourself time to play and
enjoy the walk or ride to work, to pick up
the kids, or to meet your mother. Be aware
and appreciate the process.
Focus on each moment, and be sure to laugh as
often as you can.
