SANITY SAVERS Giving LOVE on Valentine's Day New Meaning |
 |
|
Love at Valentine's Day does not have to only be
about romantic love. (Granted, it can be difficult to
watch advertisements for romantic dinners and
great jewelry.) This Valentine's Day, focus on
you, loving yourself, and sharing that self with
others. Whether or not you have the romantic love
you dream about at this moment, you can still
demonstrate the love you have received over the
years to others in your life today.
- Reflect on love you have had in your life
- Do something for yourself that you love to do
- Buy your favorite flowers and arrange them with
love
- Get a massage
- Send funny cards for all of the children in your life
(nieces, nephews, neighbor's kids)
- Create an e-message to special people who have
made a difference to you over the years
- Purchase several beanie babies to distribute at
the pediatrics ward in your local hospital
- Donate stuffed animals (now on sale after the
holidays) and bring them to a local shelter. Don't
forget to tie a red ribbon around their necks
- Plan a pot luck "red" Valentine's dinner for your
single friends

Tips What to Do when Someone is Ill |
 |
When someone is ill and cut off from their daily life, a
visit, call or note from someone reminds them they
are remembered, part of a community and are cared
for. However, dealing with friends or relatives who
are very sick (or fear they might be) can be a
challenge.
Here
are tips to keep in mind when someone is ill.
What To Do:
KNOW THE BOUNDARIES
TAKE CUES FROM THE PERSON
LISTEN SENSITIVELY
RESPECT THEIR WISHES
PRESERVE THEIR DIGNITY
OFFER SPECIFIC WAYS TO BE HELPFUL
HELP THEM FEEL "CONNECTED"
What NOT To Do:
IMPOSE YOURSELF OR YOUR IDEAS
TALK TOO MUCH
STAY TOO LONG
OFFER UNSOLICITED ADVICE
TELL THEM YOU KNOW EXACTLY HOW THEY FEEL
CHANGE THE SUBJECT
